Famous Bears confirmed for ABE’s Bagels Teddy Bears Picnic

Two of the world’s most well-known bears – Yogi & Boo Boo have confirmed that they will be joining thousands of fellow bears at Western Springs for the ABE’S Bagel’s Teddy Bears Picnic this Sunday.

While spending most of their time in Jellystone Park, Yogi and Boo Boo have decided to make the trip downunder to Western Springs Park to let people know about their upcoming movie “Yogi Bear” and to commemorate the first ABE’S Bagel’s Teddy Bears Picnic in its new home.

The picnic is being staged at Western Springs Park for the first time, after entertaining families for the past 28 years – firstly in Cornwall Park, then for over twenty years in the Auckland Domain.

Western Springs is the perfect new home for the ABE’S Bagel’s Teddy Bears Picnic with its large grass areas and trees providing plenty of space for the free family entertainment on offer this Sunday from 11am – 4pm.

Kids, and their bears, will be able to enjoy a variety of free activities from face painting to a fairy grotto, musicians to magicians, strolling performers to stage shows.

The Westfield St Lukes Entertainment Stage will host the likes of Alan Watson the Magician, an Air Guitar Competition with The Popsicle Band and the Funky Monkeys, while the Lakeside Entertainment Stage will play host to Ronald McDonald, Alice in Wonderland and Dance-a-Lotties.

Fairy Clare, and her flock of fairies and pixies, will create a magical world for children in a grotto setting amongst the Western Springs trees.

Other activities which will prove popular at this year’s ABE’S Bagel’s Teddy Bears Picnic will be the “Shrek Forever After Zone”, the McDonald’s Inflatable Football Pitch, and a large number of bouncy castles.

There are plenty of prizes to be won including St Bernard’s cuddly toys from ABE’s Bagels, and mini scooters & balance bikes courtesy of Hedgehog Bikes.

The popular Classic Hits Teddy Bears Parade will take place at 12:30pm with all bears, performing, and kids at the picnic invited to all do a lap of Western Springs Park.

The official charity for the event is the KidsCan StandTall Charitable Trust – a national charity dedicated to ensuring all kiwi kids affected by poverty can look forward to a brighter future. KidsCan ambassadors attending the picnic are Miriama Smith, Will Hall, Jo Holley and Josh Heslop.

So - pack a picnic, the family and your favourite bear, and join Yogi and Boo Boo at the ABE’S Bagel’s Teddy Bears Picnic at Western Springs Park on Sunday, 5 December from 11am – 4pm.

Gordon Campbell: On The New Government’s Policies Of Yesteryear

Winston Peters is routinely described as the kingmaker who decides whether the centre right or the centre-left has a turn at running this country. He also plays a less heralded, but equally important role as the scapegoat who can be blamed for killing taxes that his senior partners never much wanted in the first place. Neither Ardern nor Robertson for example, really wanted a capital gains tax, for fear of Labour copping the “tax and spend“ label they ended up being saddled with anyway. Usefully though, they could tell the party faithful it was wicked old Winston who killed the CGT... More

Government: National, ACT, & NZ First To Deliver For All Kiwis

The National Party claims the new coalition government will be stable, effective, and will deliver for all Kiwis. "Despite the challenging economic environment, New Zealanders can look forward to a better future because of the changes the new Government will make ... We know that, with the right leadership, the right policies, and the right direction, together New Zealanders can make this an even better country," says Christopher Luxon... More

Green Party: Petition To Save Oil & Gas Ban

“The new Government’s plan to expand oil and gas exploration is as dangerous as it is unscientific. Whatever you think about the new government, there is simply no mandate to trash the climate. We need to come together to stop them,” says James Shaw... More

PSA: MFAT Must Reverse Decision To Remove Te Reo

MFAT's decision to remove te reo from correspondence before new Ministers are sworn in risks undermining the important progress the public sector has made in honouring te Tiriti. "We are very disappointed in what is a backward decision - it simply seems to be a Ministry bowing to the racist rhetoric we heard on the election campaign trail," says Marcia Puru...
