Media Advisory – Yates Building

Media Advisory – Yates Building

Auckland Mayor Len Brown will today announce a spruce up for the neglected former Yates building in Albert Street, long the target of taggers in the central city.

Agreement between the owner, Harbour City, and Auckland Council, will see the removal of graffiti and the site made secure.

The building received a heritage listing from Auckland City Council. This is being challenged in the Environment Court by Harbour City who wish to demolition it and redevelop the site.

Mayor Brown will outline plans to clean up the building at an on-site meeting, 2.30pm, Wednesday 1 December. He will also talk about his vision for heritage buildings in the city and his determination to tackle graffiti.

Media should meet outside the building in Albert Street before moving into Wolfe Street for the Mayor’s announcement.
