Injured Mountain Biker Rescued
The Wellington Based Westpac Rescue Helicopter rescued an Injured Mountain Biker from the the tracks on the Town Belt behind Tinakori in Wellington.
The 51 year old male from Thorndon Wellington had been Mountain Biking on the tracks when he fell off and injured his ankle. The patient did not know his exact location or which track he was on.
The Helicopter responded with a Wellington Free Ambulance Paramedic onboard.
Once the Helicopter was in the area the patient was located within minutes. Due to his location the Paramedic was able to be winched down through a clearing in the trees. Once on the ground the Paramedic put a splint on the injured leg and assist the patient a short distance to the clearing to be winched out.
The Patient was then flown to Wellington Hospital Emergency department where he is being assessed and treated for his injuries.
