Opinions wanted on free pool proposal

Howick Local Board Chair, Michael Williams, wants to know what Howick residents think of the Mayor’s plan for “free” swimming pools.

So he has made it the first discussion item on a new facebook page called “Howick Local Board.”

Williams says that under Manukau City Council, East Auckland residents paid 50% of residential rates in the city, but that the East only had 16% of Manukau's swimming pools (1 of 6). Therefore, he reasons, we paid for three pools although we only had one.

“While the average rates impact of "free swimming pools" per property in Manukau was $100, our ratepayers in the East were paying an average of $300.” Says Williams

He would like people to log on to the facebook site and tell him how much they are prepared to pay in rates for “free" swimming pools?: $0, $100 or $300.
