Hear from the Crown Lynn Collectors
Hear from the Crown Lynn Collectors
What is it about Crown Lynn that inspires such devotion? Find out at the opening weekend of City Gallery Wellington’s new exhibition Crown Lynn: Crockery of Distinction (29 January–25 April 2011).
This is a rare opportunity to hear direct from some of Crown Lynn’s most knowledgeable and dedicated collectors at an exclusive floor talk in the Gallery. At 2pm on Saturday 29 January artist Billy Apple, Juliet Collins and Mary Morrison will speak about their focused Crown Lynn collections and their interest in the design aspects of this celebrated ceramics company.
The opening weekend is also the first chance to see the largest collection of Crown Lynn objects ever displayed in a public gallery. Crown Lynn: Crockery of Distinction considers both Crown Lynn’s historical place in New Zealand society and its significance in New Zealand’s design history and popular culture. Entry to the exhibition is $6 for adults and $4 for students and concessions. Entry is free every Wednesday.
Alongside Crown Lynn: Crockery of Distinction, City Gallery opens a number of exciting free exhibitions as part of ANZ’s Summer Season. The Vault: Neil Pardington is on display in the upstairs gallery spaces and the group exhibition Mana Takatāpui: Taera Tāne opens in the Deane Gallery. The Hancock Gallery showcases contemporary work from the Wellington City Council’s art collection in the exhibition The Un-Sited.
City Gallery Wellington’s Summer Season is generously sponsored by ANZ, and supported by Architecture+ and Radiolive. The Gallery is open every day from 10am to 5pm.
