Car Gazers Set to Flock to Galaxy

Car Gazers Set to Flock to Galaxy

Car buffs of all ages start your engines and get revved up for your ultimate day out. The annual Galaxy of Cars event at MOTAT, in partnership with the New Lynn Lions Club, is back for its fourteenth year, with all gate entry profits going to the Starship Foundation.

On Sunday 6 February from 10am to 3pm, car fans can wander around MOTAT and view over 700 polished vintage and classic cars, from Model Ts to magnificent Minis and souped-up Hot Rods.

“Galaxy of Cars is by far one of our most popular events here at MOTAT; Kiwis travel from all over the region to check it out,” said Bridgette Robinson, Event Coordinator at MOTAT.

One of the highlights of Galaxy of Cars will be a newly restored 1912 Gentleman’s Roadster Hudson. The Roadster was lovingly restored to its former glory by Ponsonby local, George Mihaljevich. After acquiring parts salavaged from the same cars in Canada and Australia and custom making some that couldn’t be found, George finally completed the restoration of the car on his 80th birthday, 37 years after finding the derelict car on a farm property in Hastings.

Visitors can also sit back and listen to live music by Undercover and grab a bite from the many food stalls on site. There will also be steam train rides, and plenty of entertainment for the kids.

Noel Mountjoy, New Zealand Lions Club Galaxy of Cars organiser, said it will be a fantastic day out for all.

“You can have a look at some awesome cars, and even swap a few car parts down at the swap meet, all while supporting a great charity,” said Mr Mountjoy.
