Arrowtown Village Association Meeting Results

1 February 2011 MEDIA RELEASE

Arrowtown Village Association Meeting

The Arrowtown Village Association today released details of the motion passed at its meeting on Thursday 27 January, 2011 and verbally delivered to the Queenstown Lakes District Council Strategy committee meeting today. The motion states:

That the Arrowtown Village Association supports the decisions of the commissioners and the unanimous vote of the Queenstown Lakes District Council to adopt Plan Changes 29 and 30 which establish a boundary for Arrowtown and rejects urban development outside of this boundary.

This committee of the Arrowtown Village Association also supports the decision of the commissioners and the unanimous vote of the Queenstown Lakes District Council to reject Plan Change 39 and the proposed extension of the boundary, as determined by Plan Change 29 and 30.

On behalf of the Arrowtown Village Association, we urge the QLDC to defend these unanimous decisions by all possible means in the upcoming appeal of these Planning decisions in the Environment Court.

This motion is in contrast to the neutral position held by the AVA in the past and signals a change in committee and direction. Says Chair Ange van der Laan “I’m delighted that the AVA committee has accepted this motion as I believe it better reflects the views of AVA members and the community at large. I’m excited that we can act cohesively as an organization on this issue as it is imperative that the community throws its full weight behind the council so that it defends its decision vigorously”.
