Call for Applications! Script Focus Programme with Gaylene Preston

NEWS: 3 FEBRUARY 2011

Te Ao Marama Creative Development Series 2011: Gaylene Preston

Script Focus Programme 7th March 2011, Auckland

Application Deadline: Thursday 17th February 2011

Script to Screen is pleased to announce a forthcoming series of events with celebrated New Zealand Director/Writer/Producer Gaylene Preston in our first Te Ao Marama Creative Development Series for 2011.

Gaylene Preston will focus on ways to protect the heart and soul of a film throughout the rigorous process that is filmmaking, from the first glimmer in the mind of the originator to its delivery to an audience.

We make films in noisy spaces. It is not unusual for filmmakers – even when their film has successfully found an audience – to feel that somehow the original glorious idea has been rendered bland and more ordinary by the collaborative art business that is filmmaking. We need to explore that big mysterious exciting unfathomable unifying thing deep in the heart of the film – which I call the ‘It’ The It is why you want to make the film. This series explores ways of finding It, articulating It, revealing It, protecting It, promoting It. - Gaylene Preston

As part of this series Gaylene will run a Script Focus Programme for two creative teams actively developing a feature film. Drama/doco hybrid feature projects are welcome. Each team will spend half a day working intensively with Gaylene on their project. Those attending should represent writing, directing and producing roles on their project. Full Application Info.
