Wellington Firebirds – Canterbury Wizards Plunket Shield match postponed
This week’s scheduled first-class Plunket Shield cricket match between the Wellington Firebirds and the Canterbury Wizards has been postponed due to Tuesday’s Christchurch earthquake.
The four-day match was due to start at the Basin Reserve on Thursday. A decision around a potential re-scheduling of this match will be made at a later time.
Cricket Wellington Chief Executive Gavin Larsen said the thoughts of the Wellington cricket fraternity are with the Canterbury Cricket and New Zealand Cricket family and the people of Christchurch.
“This is a terrible time for everyone in the Canterbury region and for New Zealand in general and sport pales into insignificance at times like this,” he said. “Cricket’s only a game and this is a time when the Canterbury cricket community need to be with their loved ones and families.”
