Councellors on hand for earthquake support
New Zealand Association of Counsellors (NZAC) President, Jonathan Loan, today expressed sympathy for those affected by the recent devastating earthquake.
“As a former resident of Christchurch, and with family and friends in Christchurch, I watched with shock and disbelief the suffering of those affected and the pictures of familiar landmarks in ruins,” Mr Loan said.
“NZAC acknowledges the high level of grief and trauma being experienced by the citizens of Christchurch and their families. It is heartening to see the support evident in the community which is so often the case in these situations.
“And while this is often sufficient, should people want to speak with a counsellor, NZAC members are highly skilled and trained.”
NZAC counsellors can be contacted through private practices and various agencies. These include relationship services, EAP providers, health services, various Iwi and Runanga and through NZAC’s national office phone (07) 8340220 during office hours.
