Message for Christchurch people in Taranaki
Message for Christchurch people in Taranaki
by: Taranaki Civil Defence Emergency Management Group - 1 March 2011
People who’ve come to Taranaki from Christchurch since the 22 February earthquake are being urged to let others know where they are so that they’re not listed as missing.
The Taranaki Civil Defence Controller, David Lean, has three important messages for people who’ve come north from Christchurch since last Tuesday’s quake:
•If you’ve already registered with Red Cross,
contact them to update your details (phone 0800 RED CROSS or
0800 733 276).
•If you’re not registered with Red
Cross, call the Taranaki Emergency Management Office on 0800
900 049. Staff there will attend to the registration process
for you.
•Let friends and family know you are
safe.
“I know all of Taranaki will support and help
those from Christchurch in whatever way they can,” says Mr
Lean. “But it’s important that our visitors take these
simple steps to ensure they’re not listed as missing back
in their home town. Their information will also help the
agencies that are working to assist and support Christchurch
residents after the earthquake.”
Christchurch people who have self-evacuated to Taranaki after the earthquake are also advised to contact Work and Income for a welfare needs assessment. Visit a local Work and Income service centre, or call the Government helpline, 0800 779 997.
