Life Flight Responds to Man Struck by Cow
At 2:35 this afternoon the Life Flight Trust responded to Whiteman's Valley in Upper Hutt where a 51 year old Martinborough man was injured when he was injured by a charging cow.
Life Flight responded with a Wellington Free Paramedic on board the Westpac Rescue Helicopter.
"Apparently the cow resisted being loaded onto a truck which would take it off to the meat works" says Life Flight's Dave Greenberg. "The 600kg cow charged the man and struck him in his chest with enough force to partially bend the fence behind him".
The man was transported to the Wellington Hospital Emergency Department where he is being treated for chest injuries. His injuries are not believed to be life threatening.
The cow remains in a Whiteman's Valley paddock enjoying an extra day or two of freedom.
The Life Flight Trust is a charity providing air rescue and air ambulance services. It operates the Wellington based Westpac Rescue Helicopter and a national air ambulance service.
