Ribbons for Christchurch
Ribbons for Christchurch – Arrowtown locals look towards fundraising for therapeutic benefit
9th March 2011
“Going about my everyday life just did not seem right”. Vicki Patton from Arrowtown wanted to let all Cantabrians know that while she did her usual school run, took the kids to Jazz class and peeled the spuds she was also painfully aware that many families may never get back that type of normality in their lives again.
Like countless New Zealanders countrywide, Vicki and close friend Christina Dawson, wanted to do more. And so, Ribbons for Christchurch was born. This cottage industry effort aims to raise funds for those affected by the February 22nd earthquake. But it is more than that, it is a way to get involved, to feel useful, to alleviate some of the feelings of hopelessness that many of us feel. Getting together with others in our own communities to do something to help is both practical and therapeutic in nature.
Vicki and Christina have distributed close to 300 ribbons so far and with the help of additional volunteers are hoping to raise in excess of $20,000 towards to relief fund.
Ribbons can be bought off various Trade Me auctions (search Ribbons for Christchurch) or by emailing Vicki and Christina at ribbonsforchristchurch[at]gmail.com .
