Koha for Kristchurch! phil&teds

launches ’donate-a-day’ & challenges all kiwi firms

Inspired by the plight of Cantabrians, yet frustrated by their inability to “do enough”, the individual employees of Wellington business phil&teds have put their vacation where their mouths are. The phil&teds ‘donate-a-day’ challenge sees every phil&teds employee giving up a day’s annual leave, to be paid as cash to the Quake fund.

“Based here in Wellington the thought of a big shake is never too far away, so the plight of Cantabrians really moved us,” says phil&teds CEO Campbell Gower. “ We ran the mandatory local festival stands, product auctions and the like - all great and worthy stuff. But we really wanted to find that BIG idea that could do far more than we can do by ourselves. Everyone loves the simplicity of this mechanism for giving: it’s simple, creates little pain for the donor, the leave is swiftly earned back (within 2 weeks), and it doesn’t hurt that it’s tax deductible!”

Not content with just contributing their own vacations they’ve sought to launch a nationwide movement that inspires other kiwis to do likewise.

“We’ve been blown away by the uptake both in our business and in those of friends throughout the country. It certainly helps that employees that get on board can watch their company’s tally grow online, next to their company logo, at www.donate-a-day.co.nz. Possibly the only disappointment is that we couldn’t figure out an angle whereby it also got rid of Gadaffi."

Employees and companies wishing to leap on the bandwagon can check out the details at www.donate-a-day.co.nz.
