Celebrating half a century of youth development training, adventure on the high seas and community service is the order of the day for Tuesday May 10th at the Navy League Hall in Harley Street. It’s Talisman’s 50th Anniversary Celebrations.
Nelson’s sea cadet unit TS Talisman is about to write another exciting chapter in its 50 year history with national and local dignitaries, former officers, cadets, parents and supporters joining the present cadets for Talisman’s 50th Anniversary Celebrations.
The unit which has survived a major fire at its headquarters along with arrival of man on the moon, colour television, the internet and Lady Ga Ga has continued to thrive since its’ founding in 1961 to be recognised today as New Zealand’s biggest Sea Cadet unit.
“A
special guest along with the region’s mayors, MPs and
officers will be Eric Stewart who in
1961 was one of the
first cadets to be kitted out in a uniform,” said Unit
Commander, Sub Lieutenant Milo Coldren.
“We are also very proud to be hosting Commandant of Cadet Forces – Glen Stokes whose presence underlines the importance the contribution our cadet forces make in New Zealand and in particular at this time, Nelson’s TS Talisman.”
Former TS Talisman cadets, their parents and caregivers, officers and supporters are invited to the 50th Anniversary Parade Tuesday May 10th at the Navy League Hall, 24 Harley Street, Nelson at 7pm.
