Isuzu D-Max rules the waves

Surf lifesavers are the unsung heroes of the New Zealand, tough warriors of the waves who save many Kiwi lives every year.

So when the Whangamata surf lifesavers needed a ute, they chose the toughest, Isuzu D-Max.

Trust Waikato Whangamata Surf Life Saving Club is one of the biggies: some 50,000 people go to the beach over the Christmas holidays and plenty more during the year.

They see the ute parked prominently on a rise in front of the club, above the beach. And year-round it performs a host of daily transport tasks.

The D-Max has been provided with assistance from Winger Isuzu and Isuzu Utes New Zealand, along with club backer Lion Foundation.

Winger Isuzu, based in Greenlane, Auckland, studied the club’s requirements and recommended the configuration of the D-Max.

“The Isuzu plays a prominent part in our club’s activities,” said the patron the club, Richard Scelly QSM, himself a ute owner of many years’ standing.

“It looks good, it goes well, it stands up to everything we give it.

“We are absolutely delighted with it – all-round it’s a perfect ute,” said Mr Scelly.

Six of Whangamata’s guards on emergency callout 24/7 are able to use the Isuzu D-Max, and it is commonly used in tandem with other emergency services such as St John, Fire and the Coastguard.

“It’s our privilege to be able to help such a worthwhile group as the surf club,” commented the New Zealand head of Isuzu Utes, Greg MacDonald.

“Water safety is a matter of great importance to New Zealand and we’re in the happy position of being able supply a vehicle which is ideally suited to the demands the club faces.

“When they approached Winger Isuzu for assistance, and Winger spoke to us, both of us had no hesitation in helping out.”
