Cycle trail to link through Queenstown Events centre
The Queenstown Trail, a 90km section of the New Zealand Great Rides cycle way scheduled to officially open in September 2012, will weave its way through the Queenstown Events Centre with construction of the section adjacent to Joe O'Connell Drive currently underway and due for completion this month.
A two and a half metre wide asphalt/compacted gravel track that skirts the sports fields within the Queenstown Events Centre grounds, will link the existing trail to Arrowtown to the north east with the Frankton Golf Course, and onto Kelvin Heights and Jacks Point to the south.
Wakatipu Trails Trust Chief Executive Kaye Parker expressed her delight at seeing another section of the trail being completed that will link two significant sections of the trail in the Wakatipu.
"I never grow tired of seeing the pieces of the puzzle slot together taking us another step closer to the completion of what we think will become a national treasure for Kiwis and tourists to enjoy for many years to come. This section of the trail will be especially useful for commuting."
