Lake Wanaka Commits to Zero Price Hikes During Rugby World Cup

LAKE WANAKA, New Zealand (June 21, 2011) - Lake Wanaka, the home of the South Island’s most iconic rugby ground, is ensuring visitors will not face any surcharges during the Rugby World Cup. A survey of accommodation and activity providers by Lake Wanaka Tourism has shown that prices will be the same as they would normally be during September andOctober.

Lake Wanaka is within easy reach of all the main match centres through its links through Queenstown and Christchurch Airports and provides the perfect opportunity for rugby fans to escape the crowds and connect with Kiwis.

Lake Wanaka’s iconic rugby fields are on the lake edge, overlooking the mountains of Mt Aspiring National Park. The setting speaks volumes about the town’s commitment to preserving the unspoiled and vibrant beauty of Lake Wanaka.

At the gateway to Mt Aspiring National Park and the Te Wahipounamu World Heritage, Lake Wanaka is one of New Zealand’s most spectacular regions. It can be explored by scenic flights over the mountains and glaciers or on foot on one of the many spectacular day hikes or even jet boating up the braided riverbeds.

The town is also home to four international ski areas, the largest heli-skiing area outside of North America and offers visitors the chance to discover the totally Kiwi relaxed way of life with its mix of cafes, restaurants and award-winning vineyards.

“It’s important Wanaka shows Rugby World Cup visitors how passionate we are about sharing this region’s experiences with them. Working with our operators to not raise prices proves this commitment,” said James Helmore, general manager of Lake Wanaka Tourism. “Lake Wanaka is the perfect place to stop off in between matches, relax and enjoy the true New Zealand.”
