At 0930 this morning the Life Flight Trust responded to a road traffic crash on St Hwy 1, in Raumati, on the Kapiti Coast
Life Flight responded with three Wellington Free Paramedics on board the Westpac Rescue Helicopter.
On our arrival we found a 55 year old Waikane man who had been extricated from his small 4wd vehicle, by the fire brigade, after it hit the back of a stationery horse truck.
The man was suffering from serious head injuries and also sustained multiple injuries on his arms and chest.
Police, fire and road ambulance crews were all on the scene when we landed.
“It is quite lucky there was not a passenger in the vehicle” said Dave Greenberg, Life Flight Crewman. “The left side of the vehicle hit the parked truck and there was severe damage to the passenger compartment”.
The Westpac Rescue Helicopter landed in the middle of St Hwy 1, near the accident scene. Police diverted traffic through local roads so the highway could be closed.
The patient was flown to Wellington Hospital Emergency Department where he is being further assessed and treated for his injuries. He is believed to be in a serious but stable condition.
