New accommodation options for residents and businesses in Ilam
Two modern apartment buildings at UC Accommodation Student Village’s site, Ilam Apartments, have been released for non-student resident and business use.
A modern five bedroom apartment at the Ilam Apartments will be auctioned through popular site Trade Me with a reserve of only $1. This activity marks the launch of an initiative to provide affordable and flexible accommodation solutions for people and business affected by recent earthquakes and aftershocks. Two apartment buildings, comprising of 32 four & five bedroom apartments have been made available for this purpose; already three apartments have been snapped up as offices and one as a residence.
“It’s very exciting for us to auction an apartment on Trade Me, we haven’t done this before” said Darel Hall, General Manager at UC Accommodation Student Village. “By offering a modern, warm and safe apartment for Christchurch people to live in while they get back on their feet is something we are proud to be able to do. And they may be able to get it at a great price, that’s the fun of an auction,” Darel said.
The auction kicked off on Thursday 23rd June and will run for three weeks. The apartments come fully furnished and include power for just $185 per room, per week. Offering open-plan living, stunning views and a good position to the sun these apartments will be a welcome relief for many who are tired of living in insecure and unsafe housing. Hall remarked, “Many businesses that were operating in the central city are still looking for premises. We think the location of this accommodation space will be attractive with its on-site cafe and proximity to all amenities. The bars eateries and supermarkets are happily thriving in Ilam and Riccarton - it’s the new place to be!”
Two open homes have been
organised at the apartments on the corner of Waimairi Road
and Homestead Lane, to assist bidders to get a ‘feel’
for the place on Saturday 25 June and Saturday 2 July
between 12 midday and 2pm. The auction can be viewed at: www.trademe.co.nz
