Trust - 26 July 2011
If you want to plant trees, the Taranaki Tree Trust may have money to give you. The Trust has $20,000 available to support projects in the region that protect and restore wetlands, remnant areas of bush, the coast, and wildlife habitat. It is also keen to support projects which enhance community areas such as marae, schools, and reserves. The main component of the project must be planting, but the Trust can also assist with fencing and plant and animal pest control. The Trust Chairman, Michael Joyce, says trustees are looking forward to receiving applications for worthwhile tree-planting projects.
“The Taranaki Tree Trust is extremely proud of the success of the wide range of plantings in Taranaki that it has provided funds for and is looking to continue this protection and enhancement activity,” says Mr Joyce.
Grants of between $300 and $5,000 will be made, with applications opening on Monday (1 August) and closing on 1 September. The Trust will contribute up to 75% of the total cost of a school or community group project, and up to 50% for a project on private land. The total cost includes cash, and the dollar value of any ‘in kind’ contributions such as labour. Successful applicants have up to two years to use the funds. To make an application to the Taranaki Tree Trust, download an application form from the Taranaki Regional Council website www.trc.govt.nz/Taranaki-Tree-Trust/
