Art exhibition at Thistle Hall
Art exhibition at Thistle Hall
Tuesday 15th November to Sunday 20th November, Thistle Hall.
Exhibition of paintings by Janet Atkinson.
"Charted and Uncharted Ways" is an exhibition of large emotive paintings, smaller pencil drawings, and some conte drawings directly onto old marine charts. The exhibition obliquely plots a voyage of memory, emotion and the subconscious, exploring "charted and uncharted ways" through the experience of a 1960's childhood in a sea-going, boat-building family.
Some of the works show the sea both as itself and as a powerful emotional metaphor - vast, deep, unknowable - potentially a source of adventure or danger - or both. Several paintings are peopled by large mysterious bear-like or bird-like creatures. The artist Janet Atkinson lives in Mana, Porirua, and this is her 5th solo exhibition.
