Hirepool Moorhouse Ave Back in Business

Hirepool Moorhouse Ave Back in Business to Assist the Big Christchurch Re-Build Activity

Christchurch, 08 December 2011 –

New Zealand equipment solutions leader, Hirepool Limited, has re-opened its CBD branch, devastated like much of the city centre by the February earthquake, which struck Christchurch earlier this year.

The 2,000 square metre site in Moorhouse Ave, forced to close following the shattering midday quake on February 22 and then suffering further damage in the June 13 quakes, has been fully restored and now ready to play its part in supporting the re-build of the central city infrastructure and the surrounding suburbs to the South and East of the city.

“It’s been a big challenge for everyone involved in the project, and while it took us almost 10 months – longer than expected – we are thrilled to have the yard open again for business,” says Hirepool Chief Executive, Mark Powell.

“When Christchurch was struck by the first earthquake back in September 2010, we made it a priority to have as much equipment available to assist with the clean up. And this became even more critical in February when we rushed over a thousand additional portable toilets plus buildings, excavators, diggers, pumps, scaffolding and a myriad of other equipment, and most importantly, people to Christchurch. Much of it is still in use today,” he says.

“But it wasn’t helped when our facility, strategically situated on the edge of the CBD, became a wasteland as a result of liquefaction, burying some equipment up to the axles and opening deep cracks in many parts of the yard.”

The site at 514 Moorhouse Ave, just around the corner from AMI Stadium, had a ‘soft’ opening two weeks ago, which Branch Manager Andre Davis says was very well received by the regular DIY and commercial customers.

“Now that we are fully operational again, we are confident of not just playing a vital part in assisting the CBD re-build, but also helping the thousands of people in the badly effected residential areas of New Brighton, Redcliffs, Sumner, Avonside and New Brighton,” he says.

With the reopening of Moorhouse Ave, Hirepool’s Christchurch network is now back to three general hire branches with Port-A-Loo and Rhodes Rentals also operating from six sites in the city. With 53 branches nationwide, Hirepool is the country’s largest hire equipment company network.
