National support for Nelson Tasman flooding

The National Crisis Management Centre has been activated at Parliament to coordinate out of region support to Nelson Tasman region and to keep the Government informed of progress and needs.

At this time the national support for the response has been by way of additional personnel. Staff from Auckland, Wellington, Marlborough and Canterbury have been deployed to support the response to the flooding. The additional staff will help with the large number of building inspections to be conducted, assist with welfare support for people in the area, and provide additional staff to emergency operations centres (EOC) within the region.

The Government Helpline 0800 77 99 97 is activated. The purpose of the Government Helpline is to provide information about services and assistance available to people affected by a declared civil defence emergency. The helpline opened at 7.00am and will remain open until 6.00pm this evening, Friday 16 December.

All evacuees are encouraged to register. Residents that have evacuated to locations outside the Nelson Tasman region are also advised to register by telephoning either:


* Nelson City Council Customer Centre (03) 546 0200

* or Tasman District Council Call Centre (03) 543 8400.
