As at 10.00pm, the number of customers without power on the Orion network had reduced to less than 400.
"Work will continue to restore power to as many households as possible this evening. It has been a great effort to reroute power to the New Brighton area after a quake damaged Transpower circuit breaker cut power to the temporary 66kV overhead line feeding New Brighton. The back-up systems are in place but this means that the power supply to New Brighton will remain fragile for a few days. There will also be some more wear and tear on cables and lines that will add to the fragility of the system for some time. Overall the multiple large shakes have been weathered well by the network. We will give a further update at 10am tomorrow", says Orion Chief Executive Officer, Rob Jamieson.
