Ridgeline Sponsors Kiwi Conservation

Ridgeline of New Zealand Sponsor Kiwi Conservation Initiative, Project Kiwi

Leading outdoor clothing manufacturer, Ridgeline of New Zealand, has teamed up with kiwi conservation initiative, the Project Kiwi Trust, as a Platinum Sponsor. Ridgeline, renowned for its hunting apparel, has strengthened the link between conservation and hunting with the aim to help Project Kiwi conquer its long term goal to “restore, and wherever possible, enhance the abundance, distribution and genetic diversity of all kiwi species”.

Linda Cameron, Ridgeline Product Manager, commented “As New Zealanders, conservation is something we all are interested in. Hunting plays a big part in this, helping protect our indigenous bush and wildlife. Pigs, possums, deer, rabbits etc. all damage our native environment and our customers, the ‘Ridgeline Faithfuls’, perform their part with the population control of these animals.

Close to all our hearts is our national icon and it is shocking to hear that, without management, the wild population of kiwi halves every decade. Project Kiwi has a big goal, building on their conservation skills and techniques in the Coromandel based initiative and then applying them to mentor and assist other projects around the country where requested.

We are very proud that Ridgeline can be part of this important initiative, providing performance clothing and equipment for the project workers and a range of initiatives which will be announced in the following months”.

In fact, there are many similarities in the requirements for clothing for a hunter and a kiwi conservationist! Warm, waterproof and breathable clothing to keep them protected during night-time kiwi call surveys and egg retrieval; quiet and camouflaged clothing to enable them to catch adult kiwis to change transmitters; plus comfortable and durable clothing for the predator trapping and everyday trap and track maintenance.

Fraser Lampen, the Chairman of the Project Kiwi Trust is thrilled about the new partnership with Ridgeline. “Project Kiwi just could not do what we do without the generous support of sponsors like Ridgeline We’re delighted to welcome them on board as a Platinum sponsor and are already seeing the benefits with our Project Managers keeping warm and dry despite the wet summer field work they’ve been subjected to of late!”.
