NZ Transport Agency – Auckland Motorways
Full Closure of State Highway 16 Eastbound – From Brigham Creek Rd to Royal Rd
The NZ Transport Agency advises drivers that a section of the city-bound lanes on Auckland’s Northwestern Motorway (State Highway 16) will be closed for two weeks from next Tuesday, 1 May, so that the Royal Road over bridge can be repaired.
The bridge was damaged yesterday (26 April) when it was hit by a digger being carried on a truck.
To minimise disruption to drivers, the NZTA will carry out repairs between 10pm and 5am on the five nights from Sunday to Thursday. On Friday and Saturday nights, the city-bound lanes will be kept open.
The NZTA will have detours in place via Hobsonville Rd and Royal Rd, and drivers are asked to follow the signposted routes.
The Royal Road overbridge itself remains open although a 30kph speed restriction is in place. Repairs to the bridge are expected to be completed by 15 May.
The NZTA is continuing to investigate the crash.
