CentrePort pleased with Transmission Gully progress
CentrePort pleased Transmission Gully heading in the right direction
CentrePort Chief Executive Blair O’Keeffe supports the findings of an independent board of inquiry and says that Transmission Gully will allow for more efficient movement of freight and people.
“These efficiencies are a vital requirement for the performance of the regional economy.
“As New Zealand’s most diverse port company with infrastructure, property, and transport assets we have an active interest in all transport and roading matters.
“It was clear when the Government named Transmission Gully a road of national significance that they view Wellington as a growing and vital transport hub. CentrePort is an integral part of that system.
Every year there are approximately 730,000 heavy vehicles that move across the State Highway network at the edge of Wellington city – a large number of these interface with CentrePort.
As this number continues to grow, CentrePort is aware that the existing transport system will face intense pressure.
“In all our submissions on Transmission Gully we have highlighted the new road as an important part of a package of solutions which includes the Grenada to Seaview interchange and the cross valley link.
“We have long
been a supporter of Transmission Gully and to see it making
progress is very pleasing” said Mr
O’Keeffe.
