SH2a Hairini Bridge (Turret Road) work to start this Monday night for 5 weeks

Seismic retrofit (bridge strengthening maintenance) work is being undertaken at the Hairini Bridge (Turret Road) on SH2A this Monday night for 5 weeks, and the NZTA are advising motorists to use alternative routes.

The work will be undertaken at night time, starting from this Monday (4 June) at 7.00pm, single lanes closures will be in place over the next five weeks as workers need to undertake retrofitting work to each of the bridge’s support structures.

The works require the Hairini Bridge to be reduced to a one lane stop/go traffic operation. Manual traffic controllers will be used from 7.00pm to about 10.00pm, from 10.00pm to 6.30am the traffic operation will change to portable traffic signals.

The works is being undertaken at night to minimise traffic congestion during the day time. A 30km/h temporary speed restriction will be in place during this night time work. During the day both lanes will be open to traffic across the Hairini Bridge, however a 50 km/h temporary speed limit will be in place.

The NZTA says the work will include fastening tie bars between the bridge deck and support structures to improve the seismic performance of the bridge.

Motorists are encouraged to use of one of the following alternative routes while the bridge strengthening work is being undertaken; these other routes are either a) Oropi Road onto Fraser Street or b) SH2, along Maunganui Road, across the Harbour Bridge and Takitimu Drive (Route K).
