Eco Heroes are sprouting from LynnMall

Eco Heroes are
sprouting from LynnMall these school
holidays.
It’s green thumb fun these holidays as kids are invited to come to LynnMall to learn how to be Eco Heroes while supporting Eco Organisations*.
Eco organisations and community groups have been invited to inspire the imagination of children while teaching about sustainability and environment in a series of fun Eco workshops for children these October school holidays ( 1- 12 October).
Kaipatiki Project, Auckland Zoo and the Auckland Council Education for Sustainability Team have taken on the challenge and will be running workshops such as Build a wormfarm, Harakeke ( Flax) weaving, Plant a vege garden, Discover backyard creatures and Make a bird feeder.
Upcycling plays an important part in the workshops by re-using material such as milk or soft drink bottles in environmentally friendly way. All while being creative and having a lot of fun along the way!
Shelley Jenkin, Centre Manager for LynnMall, is proud to
be able to support the Eco groups these school
holidays.
“Environment and sustainability are important
issues to both our customers and our retailers and as a
shopping centre it is important to do our part. LynnMall
actively recycles to reduce waste going to landfill already
and we are always looking for new ways to minimise our
footprint” says Shelley. “The Eco workshops are another
step in the right direction by offering a fun school holiday
activity for children while educating on important
environment issues. We are proud to work with Kaipatiki
Project, AC Environment Education and the Auckland Zoo and
extend a warm welcome to these organisations!”
Kaipatiki
Project’s main motto is inspiring the community to live
sustainably.
“We are a community based initiative to
care for and protect our local & regional environment”
says Hamish Hopkinson, Manager at Kaipatiki Project. “We
are excited to be partnering with LynnMall for the Eco
workshops during the October School holidays. Educating the
younger generation about sustainability with hands on
acitivities is very important and LynnMall provides us with
the opportunity to do just that. We will be teaching
children about waste minimisation, composting, wormfarming
and sustainability”
Auckland Zoo Discovery and
Learning Manager Monique Zwaan and Jo McIntyre-Brown,
Auckland Council Education for Sustainability Advisor are
also looking forward to running their workshops at LynnMall.
“To be able to continue our educational activities during
the school holidays is fantastic!” says Jo McIntyre-Brown.
The West Auckland children are going to have a lot of
environmental fun with sustainability skills to practice at
home or at school.
LynnMall will offer workshops to over
1200 children in two weeks ( 1-12 October)
