JGM Group welcomes Government’s village guidelines

JGM Group, who is behind plans to have locally built high quality temporary hotel-style accommodation for the Christchurch rebuild, has welcomed today’s Government announcement of Regulatory Requirements for Workers’ Temporary Accommodation.

“JGM welcomes this positive step by the Government creating certainty, because we need accommodation for skilled workers at the same time we need to look after our own residents who need temporary or permanent housing. This announcement allows JGM to get on and start the work,” said JGM Spokesperson Sam Fisher.

“Christchurch needs high quality worker accommodation or there can be no rebuild. The JGM planned developments are already being worked on, in consultation with the Christchurch City Council, and the intention is to equal or exceed quality guidelines and produce world-class workers’ accommodation. The skilled and trained people coming to help out are coming here to help create our new city and they deserve the best.

“Local workers will be used to build the JGM villages which is appropriate as much of the rebuild will involve locals and people from outside Canterbury working together,” he said.

JGM is taking bookings for the new accommodation and is in discussion with a number of construction and related businesses on suites for their workers.
