'Devilskin' to headline charity Halloween gig in Rotorua

'Devilskin' to headline charity Halloween gig in Rotorua this weekend

This weekend Rotorua is playing host to New Zealand’s up and coming rock act, Devilskin at a Halloween party at The Shed on Amohia Street.

Devilskin are a four piece band from Hamilton who formed in 2010. They are currently receiving plenty of radio play on The Rock with their latest single release, Little Pills.

Rotorua ex-pat Jennie Skulander is on lead vocals for Devilskin. Locals may remember Ms. Skulander’s powerful and compelling voice from Rotorua’s Slipping Tongue.

Arguably New Zealand’s most alluring front person, Ms. Skulander’s compelling stage presence is unmatched as her incredible voice sweeps from whisper to roar, rips with power, drips with melody and captivates with sincerity.

Playing bass guitar is Paul Martin known as the Axeman from New Zealand’s popular radio show the Axe Attack. Also lead guitarist and vocalist for World War Four, Paul’s previous bands include Knightshade and Blackjack. He has opened for Black Label Society and Motorhead twice.

On lead guitar is The Nail from popular Waikato band Chuganaut who won the NZ Battle of the bands and the World Battle of the Bands in 2004. Chuganaut opened for Iron Maiden in 2009 and has played numerous national tours and released an album.

Nic Martin joined Devilskin as drummer in August 2011. Paul’s son, Nic is the youngest artist to ever play the Big Day Out when he performed with World War Four in 2009 at the age of 13. Nic adds to the show with a real display of power and passion on the drums.

Bringing all of those forces together, a Devilskin show is always explosive showcasing both melody and hard rock with its own defining sound.

With support from local rockers Copious Ail and Tauranga’s Checaine, Saturday night promises to be Rotorua’s biggest rock gig this year.

Organiser Layla Robinsin has tied the gig in to the Spookers Rotorua Zombie Walk 2012, and thanks to the artists all donating their time to play, proceeds from the $10 door charge will be going to Brain Injury Rotorua. Punters are invited to dress in their scariest Halloween costumes for chances to win spot prizes.

This, the third and final event of the Zombie Walk on Saturday October 27th is offering free Spookers and CornEvil tickets to the first 50 people to arrive when doors open at 8:00pm. Checaine will open the R18 show at 8:30pm.
