This evening the Tauranga based TrustPower TECT Rescue helicopter was called by Tauranga Police to search for a missing tramper near the Aongatete Lodge in the Kaimai range north west of Tauranga.
The 71 year old female had set off for a walk on a 1 hour loop track from Aongatete lodge and became lost, she used her cell phone to call for help. The TrustPower TECT rescue helicopter used Night Vision equipment to locate the missing tramper who used the light on her cell phone as a light source for the NVGs. The woman was located 1.5 kms to the south of the lodge, Tauranga Land SAR personel will walk in to locate and retreive the woman.
