SFO awaits results of AK Transport into fraud allegations

SFO awaits results of Auckland Transport into fraud allegations.
The announcement yesterday that the Serious Fraud Office is investigating an Auckland Transport senior manager for the potential misuse of public money is a serious indictment on the organisation and its parent the Auckland Council.
Mayor Brown as the current leader of Auckland and must take full responsibility for any misconduct by his staff on his watch.
This is a serious allegation and one that has sinister overtures characteristic of deeper root issues within the organisation that needs urgent addressing.
But where is the Mayor and where is his concern?
An apathetic response so far from Len Brown communicates that Mayor Brown is either okay with the corruption or doesn't see anything wrong with it.
Mayoral candidate John Palino says 'It is unacceptable that Mayor Brown can be unresponsive to such a serious issue. An accountable leader would take action and issue assurances to Auckland people that he is on top of the matter by launching an internal enquiry'.
This allegation of the misuse of public monies forms the basis of Palino's policy for more transparency, accountability and responsibility in a Council that he would lead.
