Life Flight Winches Man From Tararuas
At approx 12:15
this afternoon The Life Flight Trust responded to a Injured
Tramper in the Tararua Ranges.
Life Flight responded in the Westpac Rescue Helicopter with a Wellington Free Ambulance Intensive Care Paramedic on board.
The Man in his 20’s was located at Alpha Hut.
He had Injuries to his feet after he elected to take off his shoes whilst tramping from Kaitoke to Alpha Hut.
The Helicopter landed nearby the hut but due to the injuries to his feet the man was unable to cover the 150 meters of rugged slippery terrain to get onboard.
The Life Flight team decided winching the man out was the only viable option. He was Assessed by the teams Paramedic and then flown to Wellington Hospitals Emergency Department for further treatment.
