Open letter to Gerry Brownlee from 'Respect Our Community'
MEDIA RELEASE 30 SEPT 2013.
The recently established 'Respect Our Community' Campagn (ROCC) has sent an open letter to Transport Minister Gerry Brownlee, requesting his assurance that the proposed option to construct a motorway through Mangere & Otahuhu (East-West link Option 4) will be rejected as a viable option.
This letter was emailed and posted to the Minister earlier today, and receipt acknowledged. A copy of the open letter is attached below.
Media are welcome to attend the next ROCC community meeting 4pm on Saturday 5 October at the Sutton Park School hall, 89 Vine Street, Mangere East.
Note that Sutton Park School itself could be seriously affected by this proposed Option 4, if it was chosen, along with hundreds of houses, other educational facilities, local churches and a community medical centre.

September 2013
Hon Gerry Brownlee
Minister of
Transport,
Parliament,
Wellington.
Dear Mr Brownlee,
Re: Open letter requesting an assurance regarding rejection of the proposed AMETI East-West link Option 4.
In light of the declared opposition of the Mangere-Otahuhu Local Board, and the Auckland Mayor Len Brown, plus the mounting outrage from Mangere and Otahuhu residents to the Option 4 proposal, we request an assurance from you as Minister of Transport, that Option 4 will be rejected as a viable option for the planned East-West motorway.
Two hundred local residents met at the Mangere East Hall on Saturday 21 September to discuss the impact of Option 4, should it be considered, and to commence a vigorous campaign against proposal, and to uphold the integrity of our community.
This community meeting established a grass-roots campaign organisation, and chose a name that reflects the above aims: ‘Respect Our Community’.
A follow-up community meeting is set for this Saturday, 5 October at 4pm, at the Sutton Park School, 89 Vine Street, Mangere East.
I invite you to personally deliver your assurance to this meeting, to allay the concerns of our community. A broad range of community leaders will also be invited to speak.
We would appreciate receiving your response to this request prior to the 5 October meeting.
Yours sincerely,
Roger Fowler
