Record attendance at reo Awards at Gisborne tonight

Te Taura Whiri i te Reo Māori Gisborne is ready to host a record crowd at Ngā Tohu Reo Māori 2013 tonight.

A record number of 600 attendees are due to attend the Awards this evening.

Mana Whenua and Te Taura Whiri i te Reo Māori are to co-host the awards, and will welcome manuhiri from as far afield as Greymouth.

Awards are presented to celebrate local community support led by kura, schools, businesses etc. for te reo Māori.

A highest community award is presented to a group for long term language revitalisation.

An award for Māori language leadership is made to an individual.

“The awards are going from strength to strength,” says Chief Executive, Glenis Philip-Barbara.

Neke atu i te 600 tāngata ka tae ki taua kaupapa ā te pō nei.

Ka pōhiritia te motu e te Mana Whenua rāua ko Te Taura Whiri i te Reo Māori, nō Māwhera rā anō ētahi manuhiri.

Hei whakanui ngā tohu i ngā mahi tautoko i te reo Māori a te hapori, he mea ārahi te nuinga e ngā kura, e ngā kura reo Pākehā, e ngā umanga o te rohe mō te reo Māori.

Ka hoatu he tohu tino teitei mō te hapori ki tētahi rōpū.

Ka utaina tētahi tohu mō te hautū i ngā mahi mō te reo ki tētahi tangata.

“Kei te kaha haere tonu ngā tohu nei,” e ai ki te Tumuaki ki a Glenis Philip-Barbara.
