Te Omanga Hospice Strawberry Festival starts this weekend!

Media Release
18 November 2013

The Te Omanga Hospice Strawberry Festival starts this weekend!

The 2013 Te Omanga Hospice Strawberry Festival kicks off this Saturday, 23 November, at PAK‘nSAVE supermarkets in Lower Hutt, Upper Hutt and Petone. Keep an eye out for our strawberry and ice-cream servers between 10.30am and 5.00pm for your delicious taste of summer as well as a chance to support your local hospice. At the PAK’nSAVE locations, we will also be selling specially designed Strawberry Angel decorations which are produced yearly and are a popular Christmas tree decoration to collect.

Then, on Wednesday 27 November, Bank of New Zealand staff in the Lower Hutt CBD will be multi-tasking – business as usual in-store and a team of strawberry servers and ice-cream scoopers outside the store in Queens Drive, Lower Hutt between 10.00am and 4.00pm.

Store Manager, Katrina Mearns says "BNZ have supported the Hospice for over 11 years in a variety of ways but the Strawberry Festival is a particular favourite of our staff for obvious reasons. Te Omanga Hospice is a huge part of our local community and we couldn't do without them so this is a great way for BNZ to give something back." Gibson Sheat will also have a team of staff helping the BNZ throughout the day.

Bowls of strawberries and ice-cream with strawberry sauce will be available at $5.00 per serve at the PAK’nSAVE and BNZ strawberry stalls.

The first “Hospice Strawberry Festival” was run in Wellington in 2005 by Mary Potter Hospice. The Strawberry Festival is now an important fundraising and public awareness campaign for many hospices throughout the country, with over 8,000 punnets of strawberries and in excess of 1,000 litres of ice-cream sold per year, raising thousands of dollars for each participating hospice.

PAK’nSAVE supermarkets are a key supporter of the Strawberry Festival again this year, not only providing the strawberries and ice-cream needed but also offering their local supermarket outlets as strawberry stall venues. This event is also a chance for fantastic community engagement, with both corporate and individual volunteers involved.
