Fuel leak at Lyttelton Terminal

Fuel leak at Lyttelton Terminal

Lyttelton Terminal is currently managing a leak from a jet fuel tank which was severely damaged in last night's storms and heavy rainfall.

The damage occurred when there was a landslide from a hill next to the terminal with a large amount of rock and soil slipping down the hillside and impacting two fuel tanks. A second tank (91 grade petrol) is damaged but there has been no leak detected.

A large amount of jet fuel has leaked from the tank and has been fully contained within the tank bund on site.

Diesel and petrol supplies are not impacted.

Mobil has activated its emergency response procedures and is working closely with the Fire Brigade and Police who are on site.

The Police are currently evacuating nearby residents as a precaution.

We regret the concern and inconvenience caused to our neighbours and would like to assure them we are working as quickly as possible to safely manage the situation and clean up the spill in conjunction with the Fire Brigade and Police.

Further information will be provided when available.
