The Search for missing South Sudanese student (Dau Atem)

On behalf of the African Community of New Zealand, The African Communities Forum Inc (ACOFI) is appealing to the New Zealand public to help with the search for Mr Dau Atem. Mr Atem is a student last seen by his friends on Saturday November 1st in Aramoana in the Central Hawkes Bay.

Mr Atem was staying with his friends at a batch in Shoal Bay, Aramoana, last weekend and he left around 10pm after a disagreement with friends and has not been seen since. The 22-year old student was officially reported missing on Sunday afternoon after an alarm was raised with the police.

“Our thoughts and prayers are with Mr Atem and the family at this challenging time. I appeal to the New Zealand community, media, friends and loved ones to help with the search” said Mr Essuman (President of ACOFI).

The police search and rescue teams thoroughly searched the area where he was last seen. There have been searches on foot and by air on the local beaches, surrounding farmlands, buildings, and shoreline. Senior Sergeant Luke Shadbolt said there has not been any sign of the young man after three days of thorough search. The police has temporarily suspended the search.

Friends, family members and loved ones are all helping out with the search for the missing 22-year-old man. His family and friends are worried and want him home.

“We are appealing for the public’s help to find the missing young man, believed to be in the Hawkes Bay area” said Mr Essuman.

Anyone with information about Mr Atem, please contact your local Police, or the Eastern District Police on 06 831 0700, or Crime Stoppers on 0800 500 11
