Hastings Girl Fights Off Attacker
The Girls’ Self Defence Project congratulates the 16 year old girl in Hastings who successfully stopped an attack on Thursdayafternoon. “Her courageous response to this attack is very impressive” said Project spokeswoman Alison Broad. “From our understanding of what happened, she used her self defence knowledge and skills very effectively to stay safe. She heeded her instincts alerting her to danger, dealt with the attacker and then escaped to safety and sought help. It appears she was also able to give a clear description of the offender.”
The Girls’ Self Defence Project has taught self defence to approximately 11,000 girls in the Gisborne and Hawkes Bay region, including Hastings, over the past 18 years. “We strongly believe in the importance of women and girls in our communities being taught how to keep safe from violence and abuse” said Ms Broad.
“It is always disturbing to hear of any attacks on girls and young women, but it is great when an attack is so successfully thwarted. Our congratulations to the young woman concerned.”
