6.5 earthquake 155km east of Te Araroa
A 6.5 earthquake occurred 155km east of Te Araroa this morning. The event was felt widely across the District as a long rolling motion around the City, but more strongly up the top of the coast. There have been reports of items falling off shelves but as yet no reports of damage or injuries.
The coastal schools are to be congratulated as they all did the correct thing and evacuated inland, as the earthquake went on for a long time.
