Councillor calls for discussion on crabbing
Councillor calls for discussion on crabbing
9 January 2015
Penny Webster, Rodney ward councillor today expressed her concern over the on-going public debate about the practice of crabbing on Northern beaches.
"This has been an ongoing issue at Omaha so it's not just a Northland issue" she said "In addition to the safety issue, local residents have been complaining about animal carcasses left on the beach by crab fishers. It is clear from local residents' forums that most people are in favour of banning crabbing."
I agree with the concerns raised by my Northland Regional Councillor colleague Craig Brown that something needs to be done," councillor Webster says.
"I
will seek to convene a meeting with the Ministry of Primary
Industries and the Councils to find a way forward on this
issue."
