Te Arawa Partnership proposal adopted for consultation

Te Arawa Partnership proposal adopted for public consultation

At a special council meeting this afternoon (Thursday 26 February) Rotorua Lakes Council adopted a Statement of Proposal for a Te Arawa Partnership Model and approved its release for public consultation and submissions.

The proposal follows a council meeting in December last year (18 December) which approved “in principle” a partnership model proposal put to the council by representatives of Te Arawa.

The model includes the establishment of a Te Arawa Board outside of the council to represent Te Arawa interests. The board would nominate representatives to be considered by the mayor and councillors for appointment to certain council committees, RMA consent hearing panels and strategic working groups.

Two Te Arawa Board representatives on the council’s Strategy, Policy & Finance Committee, and its Operations & Monitoring Committee, would have voting rights under the proposal.

The Statement of Proposal, submission form and other information will be made available to the public from Monday 2 March from Rotorua Lakes Council’s Customer Centre, District Library, City Focus and the council website www.rotorualakescouncil.nz.

Feedback can be provided to the council on the submission form, or online from the council website. The period for submissions to be lodged closes on 17 April.

To assist Rotorua residents with preparing submissions, a series of public information sessions will be held at various venues across the district and details will be publicised once the schedule is finalised.
