New cycle path links Marlborough vineyards
Several
Marlborough vineyards have joined forces to promote the area
as a cycle friendly destination.
‘Ride Marlborough’s Golden Mile’ connects 10 cellar doors within 6km in the Rapaura/Renwick area.
The destinations are: Hans Herzog; Vines Village (Eradus Wines, Fudge Factory); No1 Estate; Giesen Wines; Wairau River Wines; Forrest Wines; Framingham Wines; Gibson Bridge Wines; and Seresin Wines.
The concept was conceived by cycling enthusiast Jeff Fulton from The Vines Village, a bike-friendly destination set among surrounding Marlborough cellar doors and surrounded by straight flat roads.
“We are working as a collective of neighbouring cellar doors, accommodation and bike hire businesses to actively promote the Rapaura/Renwick area as a cycle friendly destination. We are all open 12 months of the year and currently the seasonality of Marlborough makes winter a quieter time. As Marlborough is consistently one of the top recipient’s of maximum annual sunshine hours we see winter cycling as an opportunity for visitors to enjoy the province,” Fulton said.
“Cycling is an exciting, accessible and growing activity for the many visitors to Marlborough and the distance between these cellar doors is relatively short, making it accessible for many people.”
Bikes can be hired from businesses on site at The Vines Village and range from BMX’s to euro-cruisers.
The campaign will be launched on Sunday, March 8 from 1pm at The Vines Village. Bring your own bike or hire on site. There will be a medal ceremony at 4pm for those finishing The Golden Mile. Live music from local band Big Scout.
