Summer of Colour at Viaduct Corner Late March/Early April Programme

Summer of Colour breathes new life to Auckland’s Viaduct Corner every week with a vast and vibrant array of creative social activities, events and entertainment. There’s three weeks to go in this action-packed programme, and things are heating up while the late summer weather shows no sign of cooling.

GRAB A BITE: SUMMER OF COLOUR LUNCHTIME SERIES

The Summer of Colour Lunchtime Series continue on Wednesdays throughout March, when Viaduct Corner becomes a perfect playground and meeting place for the hour11.30am to 2.30pm. Make the most of the long summer days and enjoy your lunch outdoors -- complete with tasty food trucks, live music, free outdoor furniture and giant games of Jenga and Connect 4. On Wednesday 18th March, join DJ Tido for your lunch hour with delicious bites from Lalele Organics and Zorrito Cafe. Wednesday 25th March brings Murray Sweetpants back to Viaduct Corner for the Lunchtime Series, with Zorrito Cafe and Pride & Joy. Celebrate the beginning of April on Wednesday 1st, with the last Lunchtime Series of the season -- between 11.30am and 2.30pm, with DJ Bobby Brazuka.

SHELTON WOOLRIGHT: ART IMITATING LIFE

The photography series Art Imitating Life by artist Shelton Woolright (thanks to Moa, Lily & Louis, Rialto Channel and Juggernaut) kicked off on Saturday 14 March, showing in New Zealand for the first time after its debut outing in Paris. Art Imitating Life sees Woolright re-working the image of the tudor rose into a striking photographic exhibit, his sophisticated imagery on show until Friday 20th March, when a silent auction will occur to raise money for Cure Kids and Lifeline.

PLAYTIME: SUMMER OF COLOUR CLUBHOUSE

The Summer of Colour Clubhouse has been thriving with creative energy thanks to families visiting from all over the city, and Saturdays in March and April promise to be just as much fun, with engaging themed LEGO challenges for an ocean-side afternoon of creative activity at Viaduct Corner. Saturday 21st March sees the Clubhouse kick off between noon and 4pm, with the future-funky theme of ‘Boats from the Future’, and scrumptious food and drink vendors Zorrito Cafe, Pride & Joy and Tiger Burger on site to keep all members of the family happy. The following week, 28th March, the Clubhouse returns at the same time with even more ‘Aqua Vehicle’ themed LEGO activities and workshops, food from Sweet Vals and more. Saturday 4th April is the last Summer of Colour Clubhouse for the season, so be sure to head down to the water-side between noon and 4pm for a great afternoon with more special ‘Sea-Monster’-themed LEGO challenges, a delicious food from Mediterranean Bites and Langos.

WHITTAKER’S BIG EGG HUNT

Summer of Colour is thrilled to be participating as a site in the Whittaker's Big Egg Hunt throughout the Easter season. Running through to 7 April, the Viaduct will help in housing the 100 giant eggs created by leading and emerging New Zealand artists, designers and celebrities. The eggs are dotted around Auckland, Wellington and Christchurch, to be sought out in a fun family treasure hunt -- then auctioned to raise funds for the Starship Foundation. NIGHT MARKETS, MUSIC AND MORE: SUMMER OF COLOUR NIGHT TALES

Viaduct Corner is alive with creative activity from 6pm every Saturday and Sundaynight, with DJs and live entertainment amidst a bustling marketplace of culinary delicacies served by food trucks hand-picked from Auckland’s best. Enjoy the glittering waterfront at sundown come Saturday 21st March, when Summer of Colour Night Tales features experimental soul jazz artists Phonic Flight Trio, and DJ Bobby Brazuka. Mop up the vibes with delectable eats from Zorrito Cafe, Pride & Joy and Tiger Burger. The marketplace will be electric with activity the following night, Sunday 22nd March between 6 and 9pm, with even more food options and music from DJ Chris Cox and multi-instrumentalist Jim Langabeer with the Craig Williams Trio.

The following week, Summer of Colour Night Tales marketplace is in full swing from6pm on Saturday 28th March, with local beats thanks to DJ Isaac Aesili. A wild live performance comes from Brazilian Divas NZ, bringing the bright colour and sexy energy of Brazilian Carnaval to Viaduct Corner. Sunday 29th March couldn’t come faster with a relaxed, food-focused market thanks to Lalele Organics, Tiger Burger and Zorrito Cafe, with smooth grooves from DJ Kina Cuts and local electronic wonder-boys Sweet Mix Kids from 6 to 9pm.

The final Summer of Colour Night Tales for the 2015 season will be a night of sure-fire waterfront magic, with a Mediterranean theme for all the flavour and spice on an Autumn evening. From 6 to 10pm, join friends and family at Viaduct Corner for a plethora of Mediterranean culinary treats from Mediterranean Bites, Langos, and Toro Churro. DJ Isaac Aesili brings music to the marketplace, in between lively performances from Gypsy Jazz band Club Manouche, French cancan and cabaret troupe Oh Mes Ananas and a special salsa dance demo and workshop from Dance Pasión, Auckland’s forerunning Argentine Tango and Salsa dance teachers. Then, come Sunday 5 April, the Phonic Flight Trio are back for more live soul jazz for a smooth Sunday night from 6pm, with DJ Kina Cuts.

IN BLOOM: VIADUCT HARBOUR FLOWER MARKET

If you’re seeking the perfect weekend refresher, look no further than the launch of Auckland’s very first dedicated weekly Flower Market, brought to you by Viaduct Harbour. Part of Auckland’s Summer of Colour at Viaduct Corner, the Flower Market is one of many vibrant social activities and creative entertainment options happening every week. Between 8am and noon on Sunday 22nd March, Market Square will be transformed into a living oasis of fresh flowers and foliage, complete with fresh coffee, juices, Storm and India teas, pastries and delicious savoury options, and all topped off with some zesty entertainment from A Slice Of Pineapple. The Viaduct Harbour Flower Market will return to Market Square on 29 March and 5 April, with all the energising colour and fresh floral stimuli than you can gather for the week ahead. On the 29th, make your Sunday morning a smooth one with Jim Langabeer & the Craig Williams Trio serenading the Viaduct with some cruising jazz. Then on Sunday 5th April, Twistin’ the Swing bring their acoustic brand of Django Reinhardt/Stéphane Grappelli-inspired Gypsy Jazz to the Flower Market. You’ll leave with flowers in your hands and hair!
