Otago builders take on three-bedroom house for charity

Certified Builders members from across the Otago region will be volunteering their time and skills over the next two weekends to build a three-bedroom house, to raise money for the Otago Rescue Helicopter Trust.

In partnership with Mitre 10 MEGA Dunedin, up to 20 Certified Builders members will be taking part in the ambitious build, which starts onFriday 10 April and involves builders working up to 24 hours per day to complete the house to a fully clad and lined stage over two consecutive weekends.

Certified Builders Otago Regional President, Andrew McGeady, said “The Otago Rescue Helicopter Trust is an essential service for the people of Otago and Southland, and is especially relevant to the building industry, particularly those builders who work in remote and hard-to-access areas.

“We’re pleased to be working with Mitre 10 MEGA Dunedin to raise money for this worthy cause,” said Mr McGeady.

Mitre 10 Mega Dunedin Group CEO, Neil Finn-House, said “We are very grateful to all of our project partners who have generously donated materials to ensure that the house can be built for the lowest cost to maximise the money raised. We are also extremely appreciative of the support our media partners will give in publicising the project once the house is built, and of Harcourts Dunedin who will be using their talents to organise the sale process.

“This is a great collaborative effort of many people’s skills and time and I am very proud of my team’s contribution. It demonstrates what we can all do as locally-owned businesses to raise money for such a worthy cause,” said Mr Finn-House.

Once completed, the house will be open for viewing by the public, before being auctioned off and transported from the Mitre 10 MEGA Dunedin car park in Andersons Bay Road. Proceeds from the sale of the house will be donated to the Otago Rescue Helicopter Trust.

This is the third charity house build that Certified Builders Otago has been involved in.

Certified Builders is one of the two main building trade associations in New Zealand, and is the only building trade association in New Zealand that requires trade-qualification for membership.
