What road should I use getting across and through the central city?

NEW MONITORING SITES

Kilmore St, outside Pomeroys, new monitoring site for major wastewater repair for a year

SCIRT’s Fletcher team’s big Northern Relief repair (currently having its impact felt on Hills Road and Edgeware Roads) is also going to require a monitoring site on Kilmore St, right outside Pomeroys, for the next year. The team needs to check wastewater levels while the pipe’s contents are being diverted east along Kilmore St. There will not be constant activity but it is necessary to maintain quick access over the next 12 months.

Edgeware Road, west of Colombo St, new monitoring site, in place for a year

Fletchers set up a new work site on Edgeware Road outside the pharmacy on the south side of the road this week as part of its major Northern Relief trunk repairs and wastewater flow diversion connecting back to Hills Road. The team will be coming and going from this site over the next year, monitoring the wastewater levels at this intersection while the diversion is in place. Two-way traffic will still operate around the site. There will be fewer parks available up to the Caledonian Rd corner and the Metro stop may move although that is still to be confirmed.

Road works by radio – just ask Ian

SCIRT’s general manager Ian Campbell was interviewed by Chris Lynch on NewstalkZB this week on traffic issues around the city and fielded some commonly asked but highly relevant questions. (Why do you seem to dig up the same road over and over again?) The link to the interview is here http://www.newstalkzb.co.nz/on-air/christchurch/canterbury-mornings/audio/ian-campbell-scirt-11th-june-2015/

…and the cover story is here if you just want a quick summary:

Work has started on upgrading the stormwater culvert under Shirley Road, between Emmett St and Stapletons Road so it can handle higher flood flows. SCIRT’s Fletcher team is doing this work which will take up to eight months. The larger culvert will make the stormwater network in the area more resilient and reduce the risk of flooding upstream.
