Coastal Hazards Chapter removal is welcome news

Coastal Hazards Chapter removal is welcome news - City Councillor Glenn Livingstone

"The removal of the Coastal Hazards Chapter from the District Plan Review process is welcome news for residents", ward Councillor for Burwood/Pegasus Glenn Livingstone says.

"I wish to acknowledge the constructive dialogue with the government over this process and their willingness to work with the Council and the community towards a better outcome," Livingstone says.

The proposed truncated time-frame had created anxiety amongst residents, many of whom were already dealing with unresolved earthquake issues. The proposed time-frame was having a compounded effect on top of layers of stress following the 2010 and 2011 earthquakes.

"My hope is that a more gradual process will enable residents to address hazard and climate change issues in a more respectful way."
