Runners winched from Kohi Pt
The Trustpower TECT Rescue Helicopter was dispatched to Kohi Pt Whakatane heads this afternoon where 3 runners where trapped on a steep ridge.
The runners were forced to take to the ridge line after the in coming tide forced them off the lower rock track. They had been running from Ohope Beach to Whakatane.
All 3 runners were winched to safety using the Port of Tauranga rescue winch. No one was injured.
The winch equipped helicopter was used due to the rugged and steep terrain.
